Applications open for the Mary Rohrscheib Teaching Scholarship

Applications are now open for a new scholarship benefiting local students majoring in education. BRE Law Partner Josh Rohrscheib is offering the scholarship in loving memory of his grandmother, Mary Rohrscheib, to honor her career teaching third and fourth graders in Central Illinois, to celebrate great teachers in Central Illinois, and to encourage the next generation of local teachers. Josh said, “Growing up with Mary as a grandmother, was a life-long lesson in kindness, curiosity, and generosity. She never stopped learning and never stopped teaching.”

Each year the $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to two area students who are interested in becoming teachers. Students must be a graduate of a high school in Macon, Logan, Dewitt, or McLean County. They must meet a minimum GPA requirement and submit a short essay about the impact of a special teacher and the lessons the student will carry forward throughout their own career in education.

We hope this scholarship prompt will encourage applicants to share stories our great local teachers who do so much to inspire students in our community.

Applications are due July 15th for the 2020 scholarship. Winners will be announced on July 22nd, which would have been Mary Rohrscheib’s 85th birthday. Interested students are encouraged to apply online at rohrscheiblaw scholarship
